On 24th April, 1915, the 1st Honourable Artillery Company battalion of 7 Brigade, 3rd Division were relieved from the trenches at St Eloi, just to the south of Ypres and moved back to billets in Dickebusch. On 26th April, the day on which Leonard Benham was killed, their billets were shelled in the evening by shrapnel and the battalion sustained several casualties. |
